Former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell has made some new additions to his communications team in his effort to defeat Republican Joan Huffman in the runoff election for the 17th state Senate district seat.
The Houston Democrat has hired Amber Moon to serve as communications director. Adrienne Fischer, formerly a field organizer for the campaign, will serve as deputy communications director.
Moon most recently served as the communications director for the Harris County Democratic Coordinated Campaign. She held the same position with the Texas Democratic Party. Moon brings plenty of experience from inside the Beltway too. She worked for former Congressman Ken Bentsen (D-Houston) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Moon will serve as the campaign's primary spokeswoman heading towards the December runoff. She takes over much of the media responsibilities from Jason Stanford, who will be focusing on other duties.
Fischer is no stranger to the Bell campaign. The Harris County native also worked on Bell's 2006 bid for governor.
"I am very pleased to welcome Amber to our campaign, and I know her communications experience will help us reach out to even more voters in Senate District 17," Bell said in a statement. "I am proud of the great job Adrienne has done as a member of our field staff, and I know she will be a valuable part of our increased communications efforts."
